Bent plywood is a form of engineered wood used to create curved furniture components such as chair backs, seats, armrests and shells. It is typically made by bonding multiple thin layers of wood veneer together, with the grain direction and thickness of each layer carefully controlled to achieve the required strength and curvature. The plywood is formed over a mould or press while the adhesive sets, creating a stable curved component. Unlike solid wood, which can be difficult to bend without splitting or breaking, laminated plywood can produce consistent curves while retaining good structural strength. Bent plywood is widely used in chairs and other furniture where curved surfaces improve ergonomics, appearance and structural efficiency.
